Facts to remember on Medjugorje
|Bishop Pavao Zanic, of Mostar|
THe Bishop continues: "However, there were impatient people who went ahead before the judgment of the Church, and declared that miracles and supernatural events were taking place. They preached on private revelations from the altar, something which is not permitted until the Church declares such revelations to be authentic.”
In another letter to Mrs. Davies the bishop thanked her for an accurate translation of his Declaration on Medjugorje into English he then went on to state: “God knows how this will all end, not well, you can be sure of that. The Church is divided. Factions are at war in the name of the Queen of Peace. I, who saw the beginning of this falsehood, of this lie, have before my very eyes a great deal about which it is impossible to write, or to describe, for various reasons. A huge amount of money is involved, and so the propaganda has no bounds. In my office there are some fifty books about Medjugorje, a vast number of cassettes, newspapers, and magazines, and new material is arriving all the time, and yet the position I have taken hurts them. For an average Catholic the first question to ask is: "What does the Ordinary of the place think about this matter?" The position which I have taken brings many people to their senses. Of course the fanaticism of some is incorrigible, and no argument avails in their cases.” Read entire letter….
Points for Discernment
It has always been the responsibility of the diocesan bishop to pass judgment after an investigation is made. Furthermore, it must also be understood that other priests, bishops and cardinals from other dioceses are unable to make judgments of authenticity on apparitions outside of their jurisdiction. Other bishops must submit in obedience to the local ordinary of the diocese of the alleged apparitions. This has always been the case in the church. If other priests, bishops or cardinals do not respect the local ordinary they sin themselves and are a cause for much confusion among the faithful and division in the church. Preternatural vs Supernatural
The events at Medjugorje are filled with preternatural signs. Many people not understanding the difference between preternatural from angelic world or gifts man had before the fall of Adam. Many people think these preternatural miracles confirm authenticity. The Church however needs supernatural miracles. Miracles only God can do. Preternatural miracles can come from bad angels trying to deceive men and if we are not obedient to the church we will be deceived.
Preternatural Miracle in Scripture
Remember Moses before Pharo in the book of Exodus, Moses and Aaron went in unto Pharaoh, and they did so as the LORD had commanded: Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh, and before his servants, and it became a serpent. Then Pharaoh also called his wise men and the sorcerers the magicians of Egypt, they also in like manner did the same with their enchantments.
This is a fine example of a preternatural miracle. That can also be done by evil spirits.
Moses parting the Red Sea is a Supernatural Miracle
At Guadalupe the Blessed Virgin brought the bishop to his knees with the sign that she gave when Juan Diego opened his tilma that is an enduring supernatural miracle to this day. Close up of the eye of Our Lady contain images of those present. Modern technology making this discovery brings her message and makes it applicable to our times as well.
Fatima a Supernatural Solar Event
At Fatima the Heaven gave a stupendous supernatural sign in the Miracle of the Sun. This supernatural solar event was witnessed by thousands of people in a 70 mile radius from the apparition site. If any alleged apparition is truly from God, there will also be supernatural events that only God can do accompanying them Rome cannot possibly pass judgment on every claim of an alleged visionary.
The Yugoslavian Bishops Conference Weigh In
One can feel the suffering that Bishop Pavo Zanic has endured throughtout these many years in regards to determing the truth of these alleged apparitions. Let us pray for him as we await the final determination from Rome.
